The first movie ended on a very tragic note with Alita (Rosa Salazar) witnessing the love of her life, Hugo (Keean Johnson), fall to his death. But the very final moments also give movie fans a good idea of how “Alita: Battle Angel 2” could start, and it is unlikely to be set in Zalem right away.

‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’ possible plot

To determine how “Alita: Battle Angel 2” would begin, it is important to review the last minute of the first movie. The Motorball tournament announcer mentioned Alita had no problems rising through the ranks and was entering the Champions’ League for the first time. This means her Motorball journey to gain the ticket to Zalem is not over yet, and it is very likely where the sequel could start.

Winning the Motorball tournament means something else now for Alita, but the motivation is still related to Hugo. “Alita: Battle Angel 2” is most likely going to narrate Alita’s journey to Zalem with the mission of avenging Hugo’s death by killing Nova.

To do that, she has to conquer the Motorball first and become the tournament’s Final Champion. Since the first movie did not leave any indication that a new Final Champion was inducted, Alita might have to face Jashugan (Jai Courtney) in “Alita: Battle Angel 2” before making her way to Zalem.

It was implied that Alita is unstoppable and has been undefeated before entering the Champions’ League. But the movie adaptation, based on Yukito Kishiro’s “Gunnm” manga series, did not show Jashugan’s full combat capabilities. Therefore, his and Alita’s imminent bout could be the first spectacle in “Alita: Battle Angel 2.”

‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’ renewed or canceled

The problem fans are facing right now is that the making of “Alita: Battle Angel 2” is not secured yet. Before the sequel was decided, 20th Century Fox already entered into a merger agreement with Disney, and the latter is now reportedly the one to decide the fate of the franchise.

There is visible online support for “Alita: Battle Angel 2” to be produced. Just last week, a Change.org petition for the sequel surpassed 150,000 signatures. But the final say rests on Disney’s hand, and, unfortunately, the studio has yet to show any interest in renewing the movie franchise for a second film.
