SEATTLE, Jan. 31, 2017 -- The 30-year fixed mortgage rate on Zillow® Mortgages is currently 3.97 percent, up 5 basis points from this time last week. The 30-year fixed mortgage rose to 4 percent last Thursday and remained there for the rest of the week, before falling to the current rate on Monday.
“Mortgage rates climbed almost 10 basis points last week after comments from Fed officials suggested the Fed is contemplating an end to the final remnants of its recession-era bond-buying program,” said Erin Lantz, vice president of mortgages at Zillow. “However, they lost about half of that increase after Friday’s weaker-than-expected GDP numbers. This week, markets are likely to focus on Wednesday’s FOMC meeting statement and Friday’s jobs report.”
Zillow’s real-time mortgage rates are based on thousands of custom mortgage quotes submitted daily to anonymous borrowers on the Zillow Mortgages site and reflect the most recent changes in the market. These are not marketing rates, or a weekly survey.
The rate for a 15-year fixed home loan is currently 3.15 percent, while the rate for a 5-1 adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM) is 3.03 percent.
Below are current rates for 30-year fixed mortgages by state. Additional states’ rates are available at: http://www.zillow.com/mortgage-rates.
