“eFootball PES 2021” is only advertised as a “Season Update.” It can be said, however, that Konami managed to keep a strong lineup of licensed leagues and Partner Clubs for the football sim’s next iteration.

Konami maintains strong Partner Clubs lineup for ‘eFootball PES 2021’

League and club licenses are some of the most complicated and interesting aspects of both the “Pro Evolution Soccer” and “FIFA” video game franchises. There are varying deals that Konami and EA Sports enter with football organizations that affect exclusivity deals and the over appeal of their games.

As for “eFootball PES 2021,” Konami managed to maintain Partner Club-tier deals with five popular football clubs -- FC Barcelona, FC Bayern Munchen, Juventus, Manchester United, and Arsenal. Gamers can pre-order themed versions of the Season Update that include exclusive in-game contents based on their favorite football club.

A list of football leagues has also been confirmed to still be licensed for “eFootball PES 2021” and to be updated in the upcoming release. Real-life stadiums are also licensed to be included as in-game venues. For the Season Update, some of the widely popular locations include Gazprom Arena, Wembley Stadium, and Emirates Stadium.

On the other hand, some well-known football clubs are confirmed not included in “eFootball PES 2021.” Konami previously announced that licenses to include FC Internazionale Milano and AC Milan were not renewed after the current title.

‘eFootball PES 2021’ release date, gameplay: What to expect

Branding “eFootball PES 2021” as a Season Update practically means it will primarily deliver updates on the rosters based on the latest real-life football events. PES Brand Manager Lennart Bobzien specifically told Eurogamer, “The gameplay will be the same as PES 2020.”

When asked further about tweaking gameplay features such as myClub, Bobzien reiterated that Konami has a roadmap of “data pack updates” after the release of “eFootball PES 2021” on Sept. 15. If “PES 2020” thought gamers anything, it is to expect data packs to be mostly composed of player face and kit updates, and that could be the same route for the next title. “Put it this way, we will still release data pack updates with new content,” Bobzien added. “There will be new kits released. And also the same with myClub.”
