A marine scientist by training, I have conducted research in the Caribbean, North Atlantic, Baltic Sea, Philippines, Vietnam, Western Pacific, British Indian Ocean and Australia over nearly 25 years. First hand experience of the dramatic changes in our oceans in so many parts of the world, particularly with respect to declines in fish abundance, has focused my research on understanding how fish communities respond to human activities, including both extraction and protection.
