CATHERINE BAKER is a specialist in post-Cold War history, international relations and cultural studies, who researches the international politics of representing national identity and conflict in popular culture. She is the author of books including Sounds of the Borderland: Popular Music, War and Nationalism in Croatia since 1991 (2010) and Race and the Yugoslav Region: Postsocialist, Post-Conflict, Postcolonial? (2018), and the editor of volumes including Gender in 20th Century Eastern Europe and the USSR (2017) and Making War on Bodies: Militarisation, Aesthetics and Embodiment in International Politics (2020). She also studies the cultural politics of international events, including the Eurovision Song Contest and the Olympic Games, and the politics of LGBTQ+ identity and history.
