Dr Michelle Bovill is a Wiradjuri woman and NHMRC Early Career Research Fellow at the University of Newcastle. She completed her PhD in Aboriginal Health in 2019 exploring ‘Culturally responsive approaches for the empowerment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in smoking cessation care’. Michelle’s work utilises Indigenous methodologies within the health research space to privilege the voices and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Michelle is currently leading community-led research in Indigenous tobacco control and Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander health research ethics.
Dr Kennedy is the current Vice President Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander for the Public Health Association Australia, the Aboriginal representative on the Society for Nicotine and Tobacco Research Oceania Chapter Board and an Associate Editor for the Public Health Research and Practice Journal.
