Margaret Morganroth Gullette

Resident Scholar at the Women's Studies Research Center, Brandeis University
Margaret Morganroth Gullette, an internationally known pioneer in age studies, has written five books and numerous scholarly essays and popular articles/blogs on age, ageism, longevity, and age relations in their current conjunctures and in American/ British history.

She is the author, most recently, of "Ending Ageism, or How Not to Shoot Old People" (2017; 2019), which won the MLA Prize for Independent Scholars and the APA's Florence L. Denmark Award for Contributions to Women and Aging.. Earlier prize-winning books include "Agewise" (Eric Hoffer Book Prize) and "Declining to Decline" (best feminist book on American popular culture).

Her essays have appeared in Theory, Culture & Society, Feminist Studies, Representations, Journal of the History of Sexuality; Age Culture Humanities, New Political Science, and in numerous anthologies in literature, sociology, and anthropology.

Her literary and cultural essays are often cited as notable in Best American Essays, most recently in 2018, 2016 and 2015. She has published in Salmagundi, Yale Review, Kenyon Review, The American Scholar, and others.

Her mainstream writings and blog posts have appeared in the New York Times (op-ed, Arts, Magazine), Boston Globe, Los Angeles Review of Books, Nation, Dissent, Al Jazeera, The Atlantic, and Silver Century.

She is a Resident Scholar at the Women's Studies Research Center at Brandeis.
