I hold a Ph.D. in Geography from Indiana University. Since 1994, I have been on the faculty at the University of Connecticut, where I have directed the Urban Studies program, the Center for Population Research, and Connecticut’s US Census Data Center.
Since 2015 and I have co-Edited Urban Geography. I received the 2013 Research Excellence Award in Population Geography from the American Association of Geographers and spent 2014 as US Fulbright Scholar in the Faculty of Spatial Sciences at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.
I continue to publish on the causes and consequences of migration within the United States and other developed countries. Support for this research comes from the NSF, SSRC, ESRC, the Brookings Institution, and the Sloan Foundation. This research appears in highly rated social science journals such as Demography, the Annals of the American Association of Geographers, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, and Urban Studies.
