I'm a historian of Atlantic slavery with an interest in how slavery was linked to industrial development in Europe. Example 1: how did the production of sugar in the Caribbean affect the making of copper in northern and central Europe? Example 2: how did the procurement of slaves in West Africa impact upon iron production in Sweden.
I'm also interested in the history of light and the growth of luminosity in the eighteenth century. That means I read a lot about whaling.
