Jack L. Harris

Jack Harris recently completed five-years of field research on long-term recovery after Hurricane Sandy in coastal New Jersey. Findings from his field research detailed the organizational landscape and timelines and processes of recovery following a major disaster.

As a Research Associate at Northwestern's Network for Nonprofits and Social Impact, Jack is working with a team on a multi-year federally funded project that is analyzing planned and unplanned educational collaboration networks in 28 communities in 12 states across the United State

His overall research agenda focuses on the communication and organizing processes of community partnerships and collaborations engaged in complex problem-solving around issues such as long-term recovery after disasters.

He serves, or has served, on the boards of several nonprofits. He is currently on the Executive Committee of the Monmouth County (NJ) Coalition of Organizations Active in Disaster (MNCOAD).

In addition to academic conferences, he has presented his research on long-term recovery after disaster and on collaborative communication at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's 2017 conference: Beyond Sandy; Collaboration, Communication and Resiliency Matters: Strengthening New Jersey’s Recovery and Resiliency through Cross-Sector Collaboration, and at the New Jersey Voluntary Association's (NJVOAD) 2019 annual conference. He was an invited plenary panelist at NJVOAD's conference.
