I am a specialist in the religious history of the Later Middle Ages. I'm especially passionate about the lived experience of religion - the odd edges, zealots, heretics and rebels for a religious cause. My research examines on intersections of social and cultural history (everyday faith, medieval popular religion, saints, art and architecture) with religious organizations (the papacy, monastic orders like the Franciscans).

My current project focuses on the relationship between political power (kings, queens and popes) and the Franciscan Order c.1200-1400 CE.

I often teach on medieval gender and sexuality, a special interest addressed in my masters and dissertation research.

I received my Masters and PhD from the University of St Andrews, Scotland, and have since taught at the University of Central Florida (2010-2013) and Oklahoma State University, where I am now an assistant professor of History.
