Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he held a “very positive” conversation with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, highlighting renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war. Speaking during a stopover in Chisinau, Moldova, on Monday, Zelenskiy expressed appreciation for the U.S. representatives’ commitment to advancing peace negotiations in the coming weeks.
In a message shared on Telegram, Zelenskiy said the discussions focused on accelerating diplomatic initiatives to bring an end to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He welcomed what he described as a strong willingness from the U.S. side to actively support peace efforts and strengthen international engagement toward a potential settlement.
The Ukrainian leader made the comments while returning to Kyiv from high-level meetings in London with the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. During those talks, European leaders backed a proposal for a direct meeting between Zelenskiy and Russian President Vladimir Putin as part of broader efforts to secure a ceasefire and move toward a negotiated resolution of the conflict.
Recent U.S.-mediated negotiations on the Ukraine conflict, led by Witkoff and Kushner, have faced challenges and limited progress. Washington’s diplomatic focus has increasingly shifted toward developments involving Iran, contributing to a slowdown in efforts related to Ukraine.
Despite global attention being directed elsewhere, Zelenskiy emphasized that achieving peace in Europe remains a priority. He noted that discussions with the U.S. envoys also covered expectations for upcoming talks at the G7 summit in Evian, France, where Ukraine’s future and international security issues are expected to remain key topics.
Zelenskiy also thanked the United States for its continued support and welcomed what he described as a positive assessment of Ukraine’s position. His remarks signal hopes for renewed diplomatic momentum as Kyiv, its European allies, and Washington seek pathways toward ending the more than four-year-long war.
