Walmart Inc. announced that it is planning to make fresh investments starting this year to build more stores or transform the existing 150 locations in the next five years. It will also continue to remodel stores while building or converting others.
Walmart revealed its plans on Wednesday, Jan. 31, and highlighted upcoming significant changes to its hypermarkets, discount stores, and grocery stores. As per Associated Press News, the company’s spokesperson said that Walmart had not opened any stores since November 2021. Now, it will add more locations and turn smaller stores into Supercenters.
The new Supercenters will cover around 180,000 square feet of space and offer almost everything from fruits to home appliances to apparel. The new outlets will feature better layouts, cutting-edge technology, and broader product selections to make shopping more convenient and time-saving.
More Jobs for the Americans
Walmart’s chief said that during the next 12 months, they plan to renovate and upgrade 650 stores across 47 states, including Puerto Rico. The retail chain giant said their new investment scheme and projects will generate thousands of jobs.
Additional hundreds of jobs await the locals every time Walmart opens a new store in a community. Moreover, the company said these jobs also have great perks, such as competitive paid time off, free college tuition, and flexible work schedules.
“Today, I am proud to announce our support for even more jobs by expanding and modernizing the facilities most core to our business: our stores,” Walmart US’ president and chief executive officer, John Furner, said in his announcement. “In the next five years, Walmart is planning to build or convert more than 150 stores, while simultaneously continuing our program to remodel existing stores. These efforts will help us reach and serve even more customers.”
First Stores to Open Under the Project
Finally, the CEO revealed that the first two new stores Walmart is launching under the latest initiative are Neighborhood Markets. Furner said these will be inaugurated in the Spring, and locations are in Atlanta, Georgia, and Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.
“We are also finalizing construction plans on 12 new projects we intend to start this year, along with converting one of our smaller locations to a Walmart Supercenter,” Furner said.
