A senior U.S. military leader met with Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Tuesday to strengthen bilateral cooperation and emphasize Washington’s continued support for Caribbean security. According to a Pentagon statement, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine highlighted the United States’ commitment to deepening collaboration with Trinidad and Tobago as both nations work to address shared regional threats.
During the meeting, General Caine reinforced that the United States views Trinidad and Tobago as a key strategic partner in the Caribbean, particularly in efforts related to counterterrorism, maritime security, and regional stability. He noted that both countries face common challenges—including transnational crime, illicit trafficking, and evolving security threats—that require coordinated strategies and consistent communication. The Pentagon emphasized that these discussions are part of a broader U.S. initiative to bolster alliances across the Western Hemisphere and enhance collective readiness.
Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar and General Caine also discussed ways to strengthen military-to-military cooperation, expand joint training programs, and support capacity-building initiatives that reinforce the region’s ability to respond to crises. The meeting underscored Washington’s goal of maintaining strong defense partnerships with Caribbean nations while promoting long-term peace and security.
This reaffirmation of partnership comes at a time when geopolitical dynamics and security concerns in the Caribbean continue to grow in complexity. As the United States works closely with regional governments, Trinidad and Tobago remains central to collaborative efforts aimed at safeguarding maritime routes, improving intelligence sharing, and enhancing overall defense capabilities.
