‘The Winds of Winter’: George RR Martin’s new statement hinted he will have to break his promised WorldCon publishing date

George RR Martin previously set his new deadline for his much-awaited “The Winds of Winter” book. He said that it will be in his hand when he shows up at the WorldCon in New Zealand. This event was scheduled to happen from July 29 to Aug. 2 of this year, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the WorldCon was canceled.

The promised date for this year’s release

Even so, fans were hoping that despite the cancellation of the event, Martin will still deliver “The Winds of Winter” on the said dates. Since the release of “TWOW” has nothing to do with the event itself, they wish the 71-year-old author will stick to the date since it was his promise anyway.

“If I don’t have ‘THE WINDS OF WINTER’ in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for Worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done,” Martin said in May 2019.

Besides, “The Winds of Winter” is really long overdue, and GRRM already missed several due dates. Thus, it is about time for the sixth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series to come out.

Martin’s new statement confirmed he is not yet finished writing “TWOW”

The famous writer said that he is aware that fans are already frustrated as he keeps missing his deadlines. He let them know that he actually feels the same way because he has been sluggish and supposed to have completed “The Winds of Winter” a long time ago.

Now, it appears that more disappointments are coming because Martin released a new statement last week. Fans were excited about his update, but it seems that he is saying that the book will still not be in his hands when July comes. Despite this, he said that he has been focused and spending most of his time writing.

“I am spending long hours every day on ‘THE WINDS OF WINTER’ and making steady progress,” Martin wrote on his blog on June 23. “I finished a new chapter yesterday, another one three days ago, another one the previous week.”

He went on to explain that although he is working steadily and finishing chapters, it does not mean that the book will be available tomorrow or next week. He also pointed out that he still has a long way to go since it is a “huge book.”

Apparently, George RR Martin is saying that he is not finished and there are still lots to write. He assured everyone that he is making progress though. Meanwhile, Deadline suggested a 2021 release for “The Winds of Winter.”
