The excitement surrounding “The Last of Us Part 2” is reaching fever pitch. While Naughty Dog has yet to confirm when they’re going to announce the release date of the sequel, September is the best time to do it since Outbreak Day occurred during this month.
However, a recent announcement from Sony may hint that new information about “The Last of Us Part 2” may be closer than what was initially assumed. Sony has now confirmed that it will be attending this year’s Gamescom.
The conference is slated to take place between Aug. 20 and Aug. 24 in Germany. Since the release date of “Death Stranding” has already been announced, there are only two reasons why Sony would attend the gathering: “The Last of Us Part 2” and “Ghost of Tsushima,” Sportskeeda reported.
The Last of Us Part 2 and the excitement surrounding it
There are literally millions of players who are eager to get their hands on the sequel since the first game came out way back in 2013. There’s also the fact that video game technology has seen a tremendous improvement during that six-year period. Indeed, the gameplay trailer for “The Last of Us Part 2” highlighted this aspect, with its smooth graphics and tight battle mechanics taking center stage.
As for the sequel’s plot, nothing has been revealed on this front either. But Ashley Johnson – the voice actress of Ellie – did say that “The Last of Us Part 2” will be quite the emotional journey.
The Last of Us Part 2 might not be coming out this year
“This particular game, we’ve shot stuff that emotionally, mentally, and physically I’ve never done in my life. And I’ve come home with the bruises and just, like, physically exhausted from it,” Johnson admitted. Her statement has been recently backed by voice actor Troy Baker who said that fans aren’t “ready” for “The Last of Us Part 2.”
With regards to speculations surrounding its release date, reliable game journalist Jason Schreier said that it’s going to drop in February 2020. Schreier said that “The Last of Us Part 2” was supposed to drop this year but due to “Death Stranding” already occupying the November slot, the second entry got pushed back to 2020. And that may have been a good thing since co-game director Anthony Newman said that there are still work to be done for the game.
