After the announcement and subsequent release of the trailer for “The Last of Us Part 2,” fans have been asking when Naughty Dog will release the next entry. So far, the developers remain reticent about the matter leading fans to speculate when it’ll hit the shelves.
The biggest apprehension is that Naughty Dog might decide to push the release date to 2020. As of now, there’s still no news how far the developers have progressed regarding the completion of “The Last of Us Part 2.” But given that game director Neil Druckmann said in 2017 that the title is already 50-60 percent complete, the sequel may not be far off, GameDevolution reported.
There’s also indications that points to a 2019 release date for “The Last of Us Part 2.” Among them are the previous tweets of IGN host Alanah Pearce. Pearce previously posted on Twitter asking why the sequel wasn’t included in 2019’s most anticipated title. After several people replied to her that developers haven’t confirmed anything, Pearce tweeted this:
“Yeah if you can’t find anything official [about ‘The Last of Us Part 2’] then it’s just my brain firmly remembering something and assuming it was public. A genuinely difficult part of games media is remembering what you are and aren’t allowed to know, and when,” the host tweeted.
Shortly after posting the tweets, Pearce deleted it leading fans to assume two things. One, it’s an indication that Pearce was wrong and deleting it was her way to make matters clear. And two, she shared information about “The Last of Us Part 2” that wasn’t supposed to be made public.
There’s also the statement of Gustavo Santaolalla to consider. Just a month ago, the composer casually said that “The Last of Us Part 2” will be coming out very soon, which may signify that the game is nearing its completion. With 2019 having 10 more months before it ends, the possibility of the sequel coming this year is still a likely possibility.
