The first-ever sneak peeks of “The Last of Us 2” shows a grown-up Ellie, who appears to have taken down a group of enemies. The same teaser makes it clear that the gameplay plot will revolve around Ellie’s path of vengeance.
Her motivation for revenge remains vague, though, despite the various trailers and demos containing snippets of the “The Last of Us 2” plot. But ever since Dina, Ellie’s love interest, was introduced, some fans started believing that she could be the reason the main protagonist is totally consumed with anger and bloodlust.
‘The Last of Us 2’ plot predictions: What fuels Ellie’s vengeance?
Naughty Dog remains coy about the future of Dina in “The Last of Us 2,” which is understandable considering the game will not be released in a few months. However, eagle-eyed fans have picked up several clues that they think hints at Dina’s supposedly imminent death.
In “The Last of Us 2” E3 2018 trailer, there is a scene where Dina and Ellie share a passionate kiss that eventually cuts into a darker sequence. Ellie is seen wearing Dina’s bracelet while cutting an enemy’s throat.
Many took it as a hint that Ellie is seeking vengeance because something bad has happened to Dina. However, others doubt that that is the case because the clues are purportedly too obvious to be true. The developer is also known for deliberately throwing red herrings in trailers of upcoming games. While it is exciting to formulate various “The Last of Us 2” theories, it is best not to be too attached to a plot prediction until the game’s launch.
‘The Last of Us 2’ plot will remain a mystery until its release date
Ellie becomes the focus of the gameplay while also being the new playable character in “The Last of Us 2.” That only adds to the story-related questions as it is still unclear what is going to happen to Joel now that he is the one taking the backseat. This level of uncertainty just puts Joel in possible danger, and that is just how game director Neil Druckmann hopes how fans will feel while waiting for the game.
"We want you going into this game to really believe that anybody’s life is at risk – including the character you’re playing yourself, meaning Ellie. Including Joel. Including Dina,” Druckmann told the Telegraph. “That’s really important to us.” “The Last of Us 2” will be released on May 29 on PlayStation 4.
