‘The Flash’ season 3 is set to feature the return of Grant Gustin as the titular superhero. Gustin recently won the Teens Choice Award after competing with several popular television actors including Andrew Lincoln of ‘The Walking Dead’ and ’ Jared Padalecki of ‘Supernatural’. He also admitted that season 3 will feature more than the Flashpoint storyline from the comic books. Meanwhile, Matt Letscher is set to star as Reverse-Flash and recalled his excitement over returning.
According to Comicbook.com, Gustin recently snagged the coveted Teens Choice Award for Choice TV Actor: Sci-Fi/Fantasy for his role as Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash on The CW’s superhero television series based on the DC character of the same name. He competed against Andrew Lincoln of ‘The Walking Dead,’ Joseph Morgan of ‘The Originals,’ Jared Padalecki of ‘Supernatural,’ and Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder of ‘The Vampire Diaries’.
Gustin was previously nominated for the same accolades last year and earned one for Choice TV: Breakout Star. The 26-year old actor said during his acceptance speech, "Thank you guys so much… This is really cool. Thank you for voting. I got the coolest job in the world. I love to play this character. I get to work with the best cast and crew and creative team in the business. So, I just love my job. And thank you guys for voting for me."
In the season 2 finale, entitled "The Race of His Life", Barry traveled back in time to save his mother from death at the hands of Reverse-Flash. Season 3 is set to follow the events through a ‘Flashpoint’ storyline adapted from the original comic book series.
During a talk at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con, Gustin revealed Barry’s intentions of returning to the past. According to Cosmic Book News, he said, "People were like, 'Why did he do that?' And I think that he wasn't going to do that, but I think that sitting on that porch, having just defeated Zoom, Iris says to Barry what he's always wanted to hear, and he feels empty inside… That was the moment... As selfish as it was that Barry wanted his parents, I think it's more about 'these two speedsters took away their life because of me and they deserve to have a chance at life. I can't do this, I need to give them that chance.'"
He also admitted that season 3 will not revolve entirely around Flashpoint. When asked about a possible appearance by Kara Danvers a.k.a. Supergirl in the available scripts, he said, "Not yet… It's pretty Flashpoint focused right now, which I think we are going to see the repercussions coming out of Flashpoint. There will be ramifications all season long from Flashpoint."
Meanwhile, the incoming season is set to feature Matt Letscher as Eobard Thawne a.k.a. Reverse-Flash. He is also set to reprise his role as a series regular on ‘Legends of Tomorrow’.
According to TV Line, Letscher revealed that he was finally given his own superhero suit after sharing the same one with Tom Cavanagh. He said, “I did get my own suit this year, so I hope they put it to good use.” He admitted that the original suit was built for Cavanagh and that it was too small for him.
Letscher recalled his excitement at getting cast for another run in the popular television series. He said, “It was pretty exciting… Having not only worked on The Flash before, but having worked with Greg [Berlanti] and Marc [Guggenheim] and Andrew Kreisberg on Eli Stone before it, anytime I get a call from them, it is very welcome.”
‘The Flash’ season 3 is scheduled to air on The CW on October 4, 2016.
