‘The Flash’ movie is set to begin filming in London on January 2017. Ezra Miller is set to portray Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash. He recently admitted that he was motivated by the negative reviews for David Ayer’s ‘Suicide Squad’.
According to Comicbook.com, Rick Famuyiwa’s upcoming ‘The Flash’ film adaptation is set to begin filming in London on January 2017. It will take place in Leavesden Studio as well as other unconfirmed locations abroad.
Ezra Miller will take on the titular role of Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash. His character was first introduced into the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) in a brief cameo on David Ayer’s anti-hero film ‘Suicide Squad’. The scene wasn’t directed by Ayer himself but was helmed by Zack Snyder of ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’.
Ayer talked about Miller’s scene with Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang during an interview with Collider at the recent ‘Suicide Squad’ press day in New York. He revealed that the scene was filmed in London while they were in post-production on ‘Suicide Squad’. Snyder shot the footage while in production for his own DCEU installment ‘The Justice League’ and sent it over to Ayer to be incorporated into the film.
‘Suicide Squad’, however, didn’t fare as well as expected with critics and fans upon its release last August 5. Although it broke many box office records, the film was heavily criticized for its direction, plot and editing. It currently holds a 26% rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.
Miller admitted during an interview with MTV that the hate surrounding Ayer’s film only served as motivation for him and his fellow cast mates. He said, “You needn’t look any further than the Suicide Squad director and cast response to the negative reviews to feel how negative critiques motivate us… Ultimately, we can’t base anything on [the critical response].”
He continued, “As artists, we aim to please absolutely everybody with our work, but we also know that we have to keep expressing ourselves as best as we can express ourselves.”
The 23-year old actor and musician also expressed his excitement for the upcoming film during a separate interview with MTV. He said, “It’s a little intense for me because I get goosebumps just thinking about it.”
He added, “I think there’s just an intention to make something extremely fun and something superhuman and something deeply human… It’s the thing we’re all trying to do, but I think Rick’s mind and his heart are in an excellent place, and his expertise as a filmmaker, as evidenced by Dope, all come together as very exciting factors to me.”
‘The Flash’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film scheduled to premiere in theaters on March 16, 2018. It is intended as the sixth installment in the DCEU following 2017’s ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘The Justice League’. It is produced by DC Comics, DC Entertainment, and Warner Bros.
