‘The Division’ is an upcoming film adaptation based on Ubisoft’s video game of the same name. Two-time Academy Award-nominee Jessica Chastain reportedly in negotiations to play the female lead alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chastain is in talks to join Ubisoft Motion Pictures’ planned live-action adaptation of their video game of the same name. It was previously reported that in addition to starring in the film, Gyllenhaal will also be co-producing it together with Ubisoft’s Gerard Guillemot.
Chastain is a multi-award winning American actress known for her roles in films such as 2011’s ‘The Tree of Life’, ‘Miss Julie’, ‘Interstellar’, ‘A Most Violent Year’, and ‘The Martian’. She also worked in television as well as in stage productions.
The 39-year old actress and producer earned several accolades and nominations throughout her storied career in show business including Academy Award nominations for Best Actress for both ‘The Help’ and ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ as well as a Golden Globe Award win for Best Actress for the latter. She is set to star in the upcoming films ‘Miss Sloane’, ‘The Zookeeper’s Wife’, and ‘The Death and Life of John F. Donovan’.
Chastain’s possible involvement in ‘The Division’ is yet to be confirmed. No writer nor director have also been announced as of the moment.
The upcoming film adaptation will be based on the video game ‘Tom Clancy’s The Division’, an online-only third-person shooter game developed by Ubisoft Massive and published by Ubisoft with Red Storm Entertainment for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. The game was released last March 2016 and gained generally positive reviews.
According to Cinema Blend, the original game is set in a futuristic New York City in the aftermath of a Black Friday smallpox pandemic. The player is an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division, a military unit tasked as exploring the origins of the outbreak and fighting criminal activity on the streets.
The game broke sales records by earning $330 million worldwide in the first five days since its release, according to Neowin.net. Ubisoft’s managing director David Polfeldt said during a previous interview, “We’re extremely happy with The Division’s record-breaking launch… The Division really represents Ubisoft at its best, with the Massive team and all the teams at our associate studios working at maximum capacity in highly-productive collaboration to deliver an incredibly innovative and entertaining new game.”
‘The Division’ is an upcoming video game adaptation co-produced and starring Jake Gyllenhaal. It is one of the planned films produced under Ubisoft Motion Pictures. Other Ubisoft properties turned into full-feature films include ‘Assassin’s Creed’ starring Michael Fassbender and ‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell’ starring Tom Hardy.
