‘The Crown’ is set to undergo re-casting after season 2 as confirmed by main actress Claire Foy. The Golden-Globe nominated actress is set to bid farewell to her role as the young Queen Elizabeth II.
During an interview with Vulture, Foy revealed that the critically-acclaimed biopic drama television series based on the story of Queen Elizabeth II’s early reign in England will undergo a recast right after season 2.
Foy said, “Well, after two seasons, that’s it. I’m gone. They’re getting rid of all of us.” She continued, “I don’t how they’re planning on doing it, but they’re such an incredible bunch of directors and producers that it’s gonna be different and exciting. It’ll be original. I can’t wait to see where it goes. I’m so honored to have been involved at this stage. I couldn’t be happier really. There’ll be no 3 a.m. makeup call for me!”
The 32-year old English actress was first introduced as the young monarch of the United Kingdom in season 1. It was released in its entirety on Netflix last November 2016. She is set to return for season 2, which is currently in production.
Foy received a coveted Golden Globe award nomination for Best Performance in a Television Series – Drama for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II. Co-star John Lithgow also received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Performance in a Series, Miniseries or Television for his role as Sir Winston Churchill, according to the Washington Times.
When asked if filming has started for season 2, Foy replied, “Yes. It’s been a bit peculiar because we’ve all been so separate that I don’t feel like I’ve even made much of it so far. We’re all in little units.”
She continued, “I can’t wait to get back together again and for us all to be in one room and have a catch up. We’re starting off pretty much where we left the last season, so it doesn’t feel like any time has passed. There’s not much of a gap, but we will go through another ten years’ time.”
Joining Foy in the cast are Matt Smith as Prince Philip, Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret, Eilen Atkins as Queen Mary, Victoria Hamilton as the Queen Mother Queen Elizabeth, Jeremy Northam as Anthony Eden, Ben Miles as Peter Townsend, Jared Harris as King George VI, Greg Wise as Lord Louis Mountbatten, and Stephen Dillane as Graham Sutherland.
‘The Crown’ season 2 is expected to be released by Netflix sometime in 2017. The royal drama was created and written by Peter Morgan and produced by Britain’s Left Bank Pictures and U.S.’s Sony Pictures Television for Netflix.
