‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ Film Updates: Daisy Ridley Admits Official Title Change Not Happening Anytime Soon

‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ star Daisy Ridley offered a small update regarding the upcoming film admitting that an official title change may not be happening anytime soon.

According to Metro, Ridley recently appeared as a guest on a recent episode of the podcast ‘My Dad Wrote a Porno’. When asked about the film’s official title, she replied, "I heard a title [for the movie], but I don’t know if it’s going to be that… I heard the title a long time ago before we started filming, and so I feel some things have slightly tweaked during production. It’s going to be a while before it’s released, I imagine."

It seems that waiting fans and audiences may have to wait longer for the official title for Rian Johnson’s upcoming eighth installment in George Lucas’ highly popular ‘Star Wars’ media franchise. Johnson’s film, which wrapped last month, stars Ridley in the lead role of Rey.

The 24-year old English actress was first introduced as the latest lead female protagonist in J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens’. The film didn’t get its full title until a month and a half before its release last December 2015, according to Screen Crush. Johnson’s follow-up may follow the same strategy.

Ridley’s Rey was a young scavenger from the desert planet Jakku, who was abandoned as a child and forced to fend for herself while waiting for her family to return. Not much is known about Rey’s past but she is revealed to be highly sensitive to the force.

In addition to having a strong connection to the force, Rey is highly skilled in unarmed combat and is a skilled markswoman. She can pilot various types of aircraft and has a good understanding of engineering.

Other members of the eighth film’s cast include Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, John Boyega as Finn, Carrie Fisher as Leia, Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Stoke, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca, and Anthony Daniels as C-3PO. Benicio del Toro is joining the new cast in a yet unnamed role.

‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ is an upcoming action-adventure and science-fiction film intended as the eighth installment in the ‘Star Wars’ space opera films. It follows J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens’, which earned critical and commercial success upon its release.

Rian Johnson is serving as director and screenwriter. Ram Bergman and Kathleen Kennedy are producing while J.J. Abrams, Tommy Harper, and Jason D. McGatlin are executive producing. The upcoming film is scheduled to premiere on December 15, 2017.
