South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) is set to question DeepSeek, a Chinese artificial intelligence model, on how it manages user data, an official confirmed Friday. The privacy watchdog plans to send a formal inquiry to DeepSeek’s operators to assess compliance with data protection regulations.
DeepSeek, an emerging AI platform, has been under scrutiny from several countries, including France, Italy, and Ireland, for its data handling practices. Authorities worldwide are investigating concerns over how the platform collects, stores, and processes personal information.
With rising global concerns about AI-driven data privacy risks, South Korea joins the list of nations seeking transparency from AI firms. The move underscores the growing need for strict regulatory oversight in the rapidly evolving AI sector.
As AI technology advances, data protection agencies worldwide are ramping up efforts to ensure compliance with privacy laws and safeguard user information.
