Well, it would seem that fans and viewers are going to have to wait a bit longer as it is announced that it would take awhile before the fourth season of Sherlock premieres. PBS president Paula Kerger confirmed though that another season is in the works already and they just need to find time for the main actors' busy schedules saying,
“As you know, Benedict has gotten to be somewhat popular since we began our work with him [Kerger laughs] and he very much wants to continue with ‘Sherlock.’ As you know, they are produced almost like films, and we’re hoping the next one will be about a year from now''.
It was announced that the filming for the fourth season will be done sometime this 2016, that would mean that it will be aired by 2017. And with that, let us just have a a bit more patience and feed our curious souls to some of these spoilers instead.
Showrunner Steven Moffat specified that Sherlock Season 4 would likely see increased roles for the women of the series, particularly Molly Hooper (Louise Brealey) and Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs).
The new season is reportedly “deeper and darker“ than previous seasons, and many fans are speculating (based on the source material written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) that this may involve the demise of a supporting character whose death we won’t spoil here. This is still not final and announced though so we shall find out more soon.
