Russian President Vladimir Putin’s investment envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, expressed optimism about improving U.S.-Russia relations during his visit to Washington, citing a “positive dynamic” under the Trump administration. Dmitriev highlighted ongoing talks with U.S. officials that covered rare metals production, Arctic cooperation, and space exploration—including potential collaboration with Elon Musk on a Mars mission using Russian nuclear technology.
Dmitriev noted progress on several fronts, including restoring direct air links and discussions on a long-term solution to the war in Ukraine. He praised the Trump administration’s willingness to engage, contrasting it with the Biden era. “We see a constructive attitude and readiness to find compromises,” he told reporters, emphasizing the value of diplomatic dialogue in addressing Russia’s security concerns and global stability.
The envoy’s visit followed U.S.-Russian talks in Saudi Arabia, which led to ceasefire agreements targeting energy infrastructure and safe navigation in the Black Sea. Dmitriev credited U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff for facilitating his visit and deepening bilateral cooperation.
He also pointed out increased interest from American companies in entering the Russian market to fill gaps left by European firms that exited due to sanctions, noting that ideological barriers are less of an issue for U.S. businesses.
In a Telegram post, Dmitriev warned of unnamed actors working to hinder U.S.-Russia reconciliation by distorting Russia’s position and fueling mistrust. However, he reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to rebuilding dialogue, stressing that "each frank conversation allows us to move forward."
Dmitriev’s comments reflect renewed diplomatic engagement amid a shifting geopolitical landscape, with economic and technological cooperation on the agenda. As tensions ease, both nations appear open to building a more stable and mutually beneficial relationship.
