Google’s hardware products launch went by without any mention of the long-rumored foldable phone that has been dubbed Pixel Fold. But reports about its specs keep coming, and a new leak indicates it will include displays made by Samsung.
Some of the technical specifications for the Pixel Fold displays were recently shared by developer Kuba Wojciechowski (via 91Mobiles). Samsung will reportedly supply Google with the internal and external displays of the foldable phone, but it is expected to have notable differences from the Galaxy Z Fold 4 screens.
The report claims the Pixel Fold’s inner display’s resolution is 1840×2208 with dimensions of 123mm x 148mm. This means Google’s foldable phone, in terms of size, could sit between the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 (155.1mm x 130.1mm) and Oppo Find N (132.6mm x 140.2mm).
Display brightness also appears to be comparable with the existing foldable phones in the market. The leak says Pixel Fold’s average display brightness is 800 nits but it can reach a peak of up to 1200 nits, similar to Galaxy Z Fold 4.
The unannounced foldable phone is rumored to be a premium device, so having a 120Hz refresh rate would make sense. The report did not specifically say if this is planned for the Pixel Fold’s main display. But the source expects it to support an undefined “high refresh rate.”
Wojciechowski previously found possible Pixel Fold camera specs from Android 14 QPR1 Beta 1 last month. First, the developer noted that the codename “Felix” is more likely being used internally for a foldable phone. “Felix, F10, includes multiple references to folded and unfolded states, as well as outer and inner cameras,” Wojciechowski said in a series of tweets.
The same code also indicated that the Felix device will include a total of five cameras, which further suggested it is the Pixel Fold’s internal name. The same code showed that the device will have a triple camera array in the back, including IMX787 primary, S5K3J1 telephoto, and IMX386 ultrawide sensors. It could also sport two selfie cameras — IMX355 in the inner display and another S5K3J1 in the outer display.
The anticipated release window for the Pixel Fold has been updated several times due to Google’s reportedly changing plans for the product. But the latest information from display industry analyst Ross Young suggests it could enter the market in the first half of 2023.
