One of the surprises anime fans found in the Wano Kuni arc is the confirmation that Basil Hawkins has joined Kaido’s side. The events in “One Piece” episode 955 will finally explain how this happened and what led to Eustass Kid’s imprisonment and Scratchmen Apoo’s affiliation with the Beasts Pirates.
What happened to the Hawkins-Kid-Apoo alliance
The brief video preview of “One Piece” episode 955 shows Law holding an injured Hawkins captive. This corresponds with a manga scene where Law asked Hawkins what happened in his alliance with Kid and Apoo. Hawkins will tell Law that they later learned Apoo has been under Kaido’s leadership, and it has led to his and Kid’s capture.
Kaido, however, did not immediately kill them and offered them a chance to live if they join his army. Knowing at the time that his chances of survival and escape were at zero percent, Hawkins agreed to Kaido’s offer. On the other hand, Kid and Killer attempted to fight but ended up getting defeated.
Hawkins should also reveal in “One Piece” episode 955 that Kaido has no interest in killing strong enemies. This explains why he imprisoned Kid and Killer all these years in the hopes that their dire situation will break their spirits and later surrender.
Kaido and Big Mom settle differences and form new alliance
Another highlight in the “One Piece” episode 955 teaser is Kaido and Big Mom happily sharing a meal. It can be recalled that two engaged in an all-out fight that others feared would have destroyed the entire Onigashima.
It should also be at this point in “One Piece” episode 955, where Apoo arrives along with a horde of giant creatures called Numbers. Then, Kaido will announce that he has forged an alliance with the Big Mom Pirates so they can both dominate the world. Once they have accomplished that, their rivalry continues, and fight until one of them is dead.

Luffy continues to train himself in Udon while Zoro, Kawamatsu, and Hiyori inspect the thousands of swords that Onimaru/Gyukimari collected for the last 13 years. Zoro agrees to accept Oden’s Enma sword and return Shusui to Wano’s possession.
“One Piece” episode 955 will be released on Sunday, Dec. 20. Fans outside Japan can watch new episodes on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
