NVIDIA's recently released GeForce RTX 4090D graphics card will be available for purchase in China in late January.
NVIDIA Launches RTX 4090D In China, Balancing Performance with Ada Lovelace Features
NVIDIA and other AIB unveiled the GeForce RTX 4090D graphics card recently, a scaled-down version of the original RTX 4090 intended for China.
This new graphics card has fewer cores (CUDA/Tensor) and somewhat lower power consumption while maintaining the other characteristics such as 24 GB GDDR6X VRAM and all Ada Lovelace capabilities such as DLSS 3.5 and RTX compatibility. All AI functions are also accessible for use, albeit performance may suffer due to the limited amount of tensor cores.
While we saw various special models from AIBs like MSI, GALAX, ZOTAC, Inno3D, and others, these cards won't be available until late January. It is expected to be released at the end of January, around the same time as NVIDIA's two "SUPER" series cards, the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER (January 24) and the RTX 4080 SUPER (January 31).
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090D will be available on January 21, just in time for the Chinese New Year (2024), which will usher in the year of the dragon. One interesting tidbit is that the "D" in the RTX 4090D name refers to "Dragon".
In terms of cost, the card will be officially available for 12,999 RMB, which is the same MSRP as the original RTX 4090 in China. This corresponds to $1840 USD, which is 15% more than the US MSRP, but you must also account for regional taxes. Some versions, like the ZOTAC RTX 4090D Trinity and 4090D PGF, are already available for purchase on JD.com for 13,999 and 16,999 RMB, respectively.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090D Will Be Available In China In Time For Chinese New Year 2024
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090D will be available on January 21, just in time for the Chinese New Year of the Dragon (2024), as per WCCFTech. One intriguing fact is that the "D" in the RTX 4090D moniker stands for "Dragon". In terms of price, the card will be available for 12,999 RMB, the same as the original RTX 4090 in China.
This equates to $1840 USD, which is 15% more than the US MSRP, although regional taxes must also be considered. Some models, such as the ZOTAC RTX 4090D Trinity and 4090D PGF, are already on JD.com for 13,999 and 16,999 RMB, respectively.
Overall, the card is preferable to nothing, although the pricing is not ideal for Chinese consumers. It remains to be seen how close the RTX 4080 SUPER comes to the RTX 4090D in terms of gaming performance, as that may end up being the superior buy, but for customers looking for more VRAM, the 4090D may be the only option on the NVIDIA side that offers more than 20 GB VRAM.
