Mondelez International has issued a recall for its belVita biscuit brand subsidiary. The recalled products include two varieties of the belVita Breakfast Sandwich biscuits that may have been contaminated with peanuts.
Mondelez International said that the voluntary recall is in effect in the United States, and the products may possibly have some undeclared peanuts. The company further said on Monday, July 3, that the contaminated belVita Breakfast Sandwich biscuits were sold in retail stores across the country.
As per Reuters, customers must take note that the other belVita products sold outside of the U.S. are not in any way affected by the recall. Mondelez Global LLC took this action after three reports of possible allergic reactions related to the peanut-contaminated biscuits emerged.
Furthermore, the food and beverage company revealed that it has carried out an internal manufacturing inspection and during the process, it became aware of the issue after finding the potential presence of peanut remnants of peanut protein on the material used to manufacture the said belVita biscuits.
Mondelez said that the recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. “Mondelēz Global LLC announced today a voluntary recall of two varieties of belVita Breakfast Sandwich products, manufactured in the United States and sold nationwide,” Mondelez said in a press release. “This recall is limited exclusively to the belVita Breakfast Sandwich products listed in the grid below, available at retail stores nationwide. No other belVita products, Mondelēz Global LLC products, or markets outside the United States are included in or affected by this recall.”
The company went on to explain, “We became aware of this issue during an internal manufacturing inspection when we found the potential presence of peanut protein residue on the line used to make these products. There have been three unconfirmed reports of possible allergic reaction to date related to these products.”
