McDonald’s Japan is bringing a seasonal delight to its menu with the launch of the Sweet Potato and Caramel Sankaku Choco Pie. This limited-edition fall treat, featuring sweet potato cream and chocolate, will be available starting October 9, offering a taste of autumn in every bite.
McDonald’s Japan Introduces Sweet Potato and Caramel Choco Pie to Celebrate 18 Years of Seasonal Pies
Fall is about to bring a wave of sweet indulgence to Japan, and McDonald's is leading the charge with its seasonal offerings.
September has been a busy month for Japan’s hamburger chains, as many embraced the tsukimi (moon-viewing) tradition by incorporating fried eggs into their burgers to symbolize the full moon. They also introduced moon-themed desserts, often using custard pudding, whose color resembles that of a harvest moon. But as moon-viewing season winds down, there’s no room on the menu for other autumnal treats, and McDonald’s Japan is stepping in with a new twist—chocolate sweet potato pie.
This week, McDonald’s Japan is launching two variations of its popular Sankaku (Triangle) Choco Pies, marking the 18th year of this seasonal delight. The standout is the brand-new Sweet Potato and Caramel Sankaku Choco Pie, which features a delectable combination of sweet potato cream and chocolate cream, along with crunchy caramel-flavored corn snack bits. The crust is infused with caramel powder, giving the pastry a rich, sweet flavor that pairs perfectly with the crisp autumn air.
McDonald’s Japan Brings Back Fan-Favorite Black Choco Pie Alongside Limited-Edition Sweet Potato Flavor
For those seeking a more familiar favorite, McDonald’s Japan also brings back the Black Sankaku Choco Pie. This long-time favorite was updated with a new recipe last year. The pie features a sophisticated twist—crushed almonds added to the smooth chocolate cream filling.
To celebrate the launch of these seasonal pies, McDonald’s Japan has rolled out a new set of celebrity commercials featuring actress Sairi Ito and Ni-Ki of the boy band Enhypen. The ads capture the spirit of fall as the stars frolic among falling leaves, enjoying the new pies.
Both pies will be available starting October 9. The Black Sankaku Choco Pie is 160 yen (approximately USD 1.15) and will be available until late December. However, the Sweet Potato and Caramel Sankaku Choco Pie, priced at 180 yen, will only be around until early November, making it a limited-time treat for those looking to savor fall flavors.
