‘Lethal Weapon’ season 1’s episode 8, entitled “Can I Get A Witness?”, will find Riggs befriending a little boy, who is revealed to be the only witness to a recent case he and Murtaugh are attempting to crack open. The two must work together to protect the little boy as he is hunted down by masked gunmen.
The synopsis for episode 8 posted on Cartermatt reads, “When a million dollar casino heist takes a deadly turn, Riggs (Clayne Crawford) befriends the only credible witness, an eight-year-old boy, and takes him into his care.
On the flip side, Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) pulls some dangerous stunts in an attempt to prove to everyone that he can be a motorcycle guy. Meanwhile, Riggs contemplates what to do with the money he received from selling his home in Texas.”
The promo for “Can I Get A Witness” opens to Riggs and Murtaugh discovering an unconscious woman. However, Riggs notices that a little boy is watching by the window. In the next scene, it is confirmed that the unnamed boy is their only credible witness to the crime.
It was teased that Riggs will take the frightened little boy under his wing as he helps to solve the crime mystery. Riggs and Murtaugh enlist the help of police psychologist Dr. Maureen Cahill (Jordana Brewster) to get the boy to talk about what he saw to which she replies sarcastically, “Yeah, I’ll just wave my magic wand since that works so well with you.”
The boy is revealed to be hunted down by masked gunmen and the team must work together to keep him alive.
Crawford and Wayans play Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh, respectively. The two characters were famously portrayed by Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in the original buddy cop action films from the eighties and the nineties.
According to the Daily Mail, Riggs was originally a member of the Los Angeles Police Department's Narcotics Division before he was reassigned to the Homicide Division. Meanwhile, his partner sergeant Roger Murtaugh is a veteran homicide detective, who initially detests Martin.
Wayans admitted that he never saw the original films before being cast into the lead role, according to Today Online. He said, “I was more into silent movies. I was like, “What is that, is that like a little tool?” I’m thinking it was something you get from Home Depot.”
He also talked about his character’s chemistry with Crawford’s Riggs, “Well, what’s interesting about the way Riggs and Murtaugh work together is that they have differences of opinion but they meet in the middle in order to solve crimes. As soon as it’s about the case, about getting things solved and saving people’s lives, they’re in sync.”
Wayans added, “I think the audience wants to see them work on a personal level, but they are just miles apart in terms of what they think and feel about life at this point. That makes it great for conflict.”
‘Lethal Weapon’ season 1’s episode 8, entitled “Can I Get A Witness?”, is scheduled to air on Fox on November 30, 2016. It will be followed by episode 9, entitled "Jingle Bell Glock", scheduled for December 7.
