It has been more than a year since Nintendo confirmed that “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” is going to have a direct sequel. With rumors circulating online that the next-generation Nintendo Switch is planned to be released in 2021, fans are now hoping that the next game is also slated to launch next year.
‘Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2’ release date possibilities
First, it should be noted that the announcement trailer unveiled during E3 2019 remains the only official update fans have about “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.” It confirmed that the development of the sequel was already underway, which also meant that its launch should happen in the near future.
The entire franchise of “Legend of Zelda” is riddled with long waiting periods for the next main series title, so avid fans should know that a potential release of “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2” in 2021 is plausible. It can be recalled that the current game was released as a launch title for the Switch console in 2017. Also, reports emerged last week that plans for the next-generation Nintendo Switch are already in the pipeline and the console could be released in 2021.
Nintendo has yet to confirm the information, but the video game company purportedly planned to skip 2020 for the new console launch to avoid competing with Sony and Microsoft. If the Japanese video game giant ended up launching its new console in 2021, it would make sense for it to be released with “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2” as its launch title again.
‘Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2’ updates in September?
The best fans could hope to get this year is a development update about “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.” And well-known gaming insider Jeff Grubb recently reported that a stream event “equivalent” to a general Nintendo Direct could be happening “by the middle of September.”
This is a pretty good summation of what you should know about the upcoming Nintendo event. It's weird that August 28 is a Friday, so I'm not confident at all that's a general Direct. It could be any number of things. But do expect a Direct equivalent by the middle of September. https://t.co/T0jKAlNpBR

A general Nintendo Direct is usually the event where some of the biggest announcements about upcoming titles and game updates are made. If the rumored stream event becomes a reality, it should be a good chance for fans to hear fresh news about “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.”
