Kia announced that its electric vehicle owners would soon tap into Tesla's expansive Supercharger network across the U.S. and Canada. The automaker is providing free NACS adapters for the EV6, EV9, and Niro EV, greatly expanding fast-charging accessibility.
Along with other data regarding the use of the extensive EV charging network, Kia has disclosed the date when its electric vehicle drivers will be able to access Tesla Superchargers.
Kia to Join Tesla Supercharger Network
The North American Charging Standard (NACS) developed by Tesla was revealed to be adopted by Kia and Hyundai in October of last year, Teslarati reports. In response to Tesla's apparent dominance in the global charging infrastructure market, particularly in North America, several car manufacturers took this step last year.
But firms have been getting access in stages; Ford was the first big automaker to have access with its electric vehicles to Tesla Superchargers. Superchargers were very recently implemented by General Motors.
Tesla's Charging Network Expands to More Automakers
We can't help but ask: "When will others be able to use Tesla Supercharger piles in the U.S. and Canada?"
This morning, Kia provided a response to the query.
Access Begins Soon for Kia EV Owners
It stated that on January 15, 2025, the corporation will be able to use Tesla Superchargers. Also, NACS adapters for the EV6 and EV9 will be available soon, and they will be given out for free to customers who order them after September 4th.
According to Tesla, 16,500 Superchargers around the United States will be accessible with the adapter.
Free Adapters for Kia's EV Customers
In response to the news, Eric Watson, Kia America's VP of sales operations, said:
As a leader in electrified mobility, it’s important Kia provide our EV customers the best ownership experience possible, and offering NACS adapters is a great way to open up a vast number of charge points across North America, expanding Kia-accessible DC charge points by more than 83 percent. Kia EVs are known for their range, with the EV6 RWD Light Long Range traveling an EPA-estimated 310 miles on a full charge. Now, with access to this sprawling network of DC fast chargers, our EV owners can feel even more confident in their ability to reach far-flung destinations on electricity.
