The “Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War” franchise has been breaking records in several fields over the last year. Following the announcement of “Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War” season 2, the original manga series was reported as one of the best-selling titles in Japan within a year.
'Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War' season 2 confirmation follows manga’s strong sales in Japan
Fans of the romantic comedy series have more reasons to celebrate as the title continues to prove it is one of the most followed franchises in 2019. Its successful anime debut earlier this year was followed by a blockbuster premiere of its live-action movie in Japan last September.
Now, the same title manga where “Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War” season 2 will be based was named as the ninth best-selling series in Japan between Nov. 19, 2018 and Nov. 17, 2019. The series sold more than 4 million copies within that period, per Oricon’s report (via OtakuKart).
The live-action movie of “Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War” took the number 1 spot in the Japanese box office on its opening weekend after selling 460 million yen (over $4 million) worth of movie tickets on Sept. 6-8. It surpassed the 1 billion yen mark in ticket sales just a week later. The movie’s success was one of the clues that fans took while hoping the anime would be renewed. By the following month, “Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War” season 2 was confirmed.
'Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War' season 2 release date
The only downside to the “Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War” season 2 announcement was that even the release date window was not mentioned. The first season premiered in the earlier part of 2019. But since season 2 was only announced last October, its earliest possible release date would be in spring 2020 or the wait could be extended up to fall next year.
'Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War' season 2 plot
The plot revolves around the two extremely intelligent protagonists, Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane, who are both hell-bent on forcing the other person to confess their feelings through intricate mind games. They are both too proud and believe that admitting romantic feelings show weakness. This silent war would still be a rich source of comedy in “Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War” season 2.
