Israeli airstrikes and shelling across Gaza on Friday killed at least 12 people, including six police officers, according to Palestinian health officials. The latest escalation highlights the fragile security situation in the region, where violence continues despite a ceasefire agreement reached in October 2025.

In Gaza City, an Israeli strike reportedly killed three individuals, including two members of the local police force. Additional attacks were reported in northern Gaza, where tank shelling in Beit Lahiya killed two more people. In the southern city of Khan Younis, a separate strike claimed the lives of seven individuals, including four police officers. Local medics indicated that the Khan Younis strike targeted a police vehicle near a wedding hall, raising concerns about civilian safety in densely populated areas.

The Israeli military confirmed carrying out an ആക്രമation in Gaza City, stating that the operation was aimed at Hamas militants. However, officials did not immediately comment on the other reported incidents. Gaza’s interior ministry said the strikes in both Gaza City and Khan Younis specifically targeted its police forces, which have been used by Hamas to maintain governance in areas under its control.

Recent reports suggest that Israel has intensified its campaign against Gaza’s Hamas-run police infrastructure as part of broader military efforts. Despite the ceasefire agreement, near-daily violence has persisted, with both Israel and Hamas accusing each other of violations.

Since the ceasefire took effect, at least 800 Palestinians have reportedly been killed, according to local health authorities. Meanwhile, Israeli sources say that militant activity has resulted in the deaths of four Israeli soldiers. The broader conflict, which began after Hamas’ October 7, 2023 attacks that killed around 1,200 people in Israel, has led to devastating casualties in Gaza. Palestinian health officials estimate that more than 72,000 people, most of them civilians, have died since the war began.

The ongoing Gaza conflict continues to raise international concern, as repeated Israeli strikes and Hamas responses undermine efforts to maintain long-term peace and stability in the region.
