Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 continues to dominate the electric SUV market, setting a new October sales record in the U.S. With the release of the 2025 model imminent, the IONIQ 5 is poised for even greater success with upgrades, including extended range and Tesla Supercharger compatibility.
Hyundai Achieves Record October Sales with IONIQ 5 Leading a 51% Year-Over-Year Surge
Hyundai’s all-electric IONIQ 5 SUV achieved a new milestone in the U.S. market last month, propelling the brand to its best-ever October sales performance. With the upgraded 2025 model on the horizon, the IONIQ 5 surpasses expectations and solidifies its position in the electric vehicle segment.
Hyundai Motor America reported 71,802 vehicles sold in October, an 18% increase from the previous year, marking the company’s highest October sales record. This achievement aligns with sister company Kia’s record-breaking October sales, announced on November 1.
Leading Hyundai’s performance, the IONIQ 5 set a new October sales record, with 4,498 units sold—a 51% year-over-year increase. Through the first ten months of 2024, Hyundai has sold 34,816 IONIQ 5s in the U.S., reflecting a 23% growth from the previous year.
IONIQ 6 Sales Rise Amid Strong Demand for Upgraded 2025 IONIQ 5 with Extended Range and Tesla Port
In contrast, Hyundai’s other dedicated EV, the IONIQ 6, saw 837 units sold in October. Although lower in volume, IONIQ 6 sales are still up by 4% year-over-year, with 9,934 models sold through October.
The heightened demand for the IONIQ 5 follows the unveiling of its upgraded 2025 model in September. This model features an extended range, a refined design, and a new XRT trim. The updated model includes an NACS port for access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network.
With production underway at Hyundai’s new Metaplant America in Georgia, the 2025 IONIQ 5 is slated for imminent delivery. This model, the first vehicle assembled at the facility, qualifies for a partial $3,750 tax credit, with eligibility expected to reach a total of $7,500 next year when the battery production component is in place.
According to Electrek, Hyundai’s new 2025 IONIQ 5 models are expected to arrive later this year, and starting in Q4 2024, all future EV models produced in Georgia will be equipped with a Tesla NACS port.
Earlier this week, Hyundai offered a glimpse of its first three-row electric SUV, the IONIQ 9, which will also be manufactured in Georgia alongside the IONIQ 5. The IONIQ 9 represents Hyundai’s "inaugural venture into large SUV EV models," with recent sightings of the vehicle showing its substantial size.
