Fox News host Laura Ingraham found herself at the center of controversy after she criticized former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama for their pointed remarks about Donald Trump at the Democratic National Convention (DNC). During a recent episode of The Ingraham Angle, the conservative commentator expressed her disapproval of the Obamas’ comments, likening them to the behavior of "mean girls."
Ingraham’s critique focused on the moments when Michelle Obama denounced Trump as "racist" and "misogynistic," and when Barack Obama mocked Trump’s obsession with crowd sizes, using a subtle hand gesture to drive his point home. Ingraham characterized the Obamas’ remarks as inappropriate for a former president and first lady, arguing that their tone was more suited to late-night television than to a national political convention.
"The Kamala crew is unserious, and that now includes the Obamas, who stole the show with one-liners trashing Trump," Ingraham said on her show, suggesting that their behavior was unbecoming of individuals who once held the nation’s highest offices.
However, clips from Ingraham’s show quickly went viral on social media, where her comments were met with swift backlash. Critics accused the Fox News host of hypocrisy, pointing out that Trump and other Republicans have long engaged in personal attacks against their political opponents, including the Obamas.
One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, responded to Ingraham’s remarks by highlighting Trump’s history of making inflammatory and often baseless claims about the Obamas. "Hey Laura Ingraham, spare me your outrage. Donald has spent years making up s--- on Obama and being a racist. He's still doing it. He deserved all of that last night," the user wrote.
Another user echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the irony of Ingraham’s criticism given her support for Trump. "He deserved all of that and more. And it is amazing Ingraham has the nerve to say certain conduct is unbecoming of a president when she supports Donald Trump!!!! The disrespect the supposed leaders of the Republican Party have for their voters is alarming."
A third commenter pointed out that the Obamas were simply stating facts, which Republicans often perceive as personal attacks. "The Obamas don't make anything up. Everything they said actually happened. To Republicans, being mean is pointing out facts that hurt their feelings," they noted.
This is not the first time Ingraham has faced criticism for her comments on the DNC. Recently, she took to X to mock Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s comparison of the DNC to a "rock concert," insinuating that the Democratic Party was more focused on entertainment than on addressing important issues.
Critics were quick to remind Ingraham that the Republican National Convention also featured celebrities and entertainment, undermining her argument that the DNC was prioritizing style over substance.
As the Democratic National Convention drew to a close, with Vice President Kamala Harris set to accept the presidential nomination, Ingraham’s remarks served as yet another flashpoint in the ongoing culture war between the nation’s political factions.
