Hollys, the esteemed coffee division of South Korea's KG Group, has announced its ambitious foray into the international market with the inauguration of its first overseas cafe in Osaka, Japan, next month. This move marks a significant milestone in the company's comprehensive expansion strategy.
A Strategic Step into Osaka
Korea Times noted that to capture the hearts of coffee aficionados and enthusiasts of Korean culture, Hollys has identified Japan as the initial step of its global expansion. The decision to set foot in Osaka, with its outlet slated to open within the Marui Department Store in Namba, comes as a strategic choice influenced by the city's young population's growing fondness for Korean-style cafes and desserts.
This aligns with Japan's broader appreciation for Korean culture, providing an ideal backdrop for Hollys' inaugural international venture.
Partnership with Gouter d'Anatole
Yonhap reported that to strengthen its offerings, Hollys has partnered with the local bakery brand Gouter d'Anatole to serve a unique blend of coffee and bread starting May 1. This collaboration is a testament to Hollys' commitment to offering an authentic and high-quality coffee experience, blending the best Korean and Japanese culinary traditions.
Vision for Future Expansion
Under the leadership of CEO Lee Jong-hyun, Hollys is not stopping at Osaka. The brand envisions a bold expansion plan that includes opening more outlets across major Japanese cities and eventually branching out into other countries. Unlike other international expansions that rely on master franchise agreements, Hollys has chosen a direct entry approach. CEO Lee Jong-hyun expressed, "We aim to showcase Korean cafe culture and coffee flavors directly to the largest coffee-consuming market in Asia."
A Legacy of Coffee Excellence
Since its inception in 1998, Hollys has grown to operate 530 outlets across Korea, showcasing the brand's legacy and expertise in the coffee industry. Part of the diverse KG Group, known for its ventures in chemicals, steel-making, car manufacturing, and logistics, Hollys' international expansion is a bold step forward in bringing Korean coffee culture to the global stage.
