‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ has officially wrapped filming on June 16 and has moved to post-production. The film’s official synopsis has also been released by Marvel.
According to BBC, lead actor Chris Pratt announced the end of principal photography through his Instagram account. He posted three photographs from the final day of filming at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia. One image had him posing beside a fire hydrant while the other two showed him with his stunt-man Tony McFarr.
Director James Gunn also confirmed the end of filming through a video announcement posted on Facenbook. He said, "I am wrapping Mr Chris Pratt from the set of Guardians Of The Galaxy volume 2." He was joined by Pratt who thanked crew members while saying, "This is going to be the greatest spectacle film of all time."
Filming began on February 11, 2016 at Pinewood Studios with Marvel officially announcing it to the public on February 17 after a week of “pre-shooting”.
The studio recently released the upcoming film’s official synopsis. The synopsis posted on Collider stated, “Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.”
The synopsis suggested that the quest for Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord’s parentage may be part of the sequel’s main storyline. It was previously speculated that Kurt Russell’s yet unnamed character will be revealed to be Peter’s real father. It was also rumored that the enemy-turned-ally referred to in the synopsis could be Karen Gillan’s Nebula.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ is an upcoming superhero film based on the Marvel comic book team of the same name. It is written and directed by James Gunn and produced by Kevin Feige. It is co-produced by Lars P. Winther with Simon Hatt serving as associate producer. Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Nikolas Korda, and Stan Lee will be executive producing.
The film is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2017. It is intended as the sequel to 2014’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, which was a massive critical and financial success. The first film grossed $773.3 million worldwide against a budget of $170 million.
