GS Retail Company Ltd., a retail store chain operator in South Korea, launched new transportation cards for foreign visitors. These are exclusive to foreigners and can be obtained from the company’s GS25 convenience store outlets across the country.
To offer the special transportation cards to tourists, GS25 teamed up with LOCA Mobility and this was confirmed by GS Retail on Sunday, Aug.27. Based on the reports, the new product has been named the "Hanbok Chunsik LOCA M" card, and it was designed to give various perks to foreign tourists who will avail of GS Retaii’s transportation and SIM cards.
According to The Korea Times, the new Hanbok Chunsik LOCA M transportation card will offer various benefits, such as discounts on services. The company is able to provide these perks after signing a strategic partnership deal with CreaTrip, a Seoul-based travel platform.
It was mentioned that one example of perks to gain from using GS Retail’s transportation card is a discount that can be as high as 20% for purchases at 180 stores, including popular food and beverage retailers - Cafe Truers and Seoul 88 Beer. Foreigners may find the e-coupons in the transportation card package.
Seoul News Daily further reported that major retail stores like Shinsegae Duty Free and ABC Mart will also offer discounts for GS25 transportation card holders. The cards are now available at 235 GS25 convenience stores located in areas with a high population of foreign visitors, such as Itaewon, Myeong-dong, Seoul Station, Hongik University, and Hongdae. GS Retail is planning to add more locations by the end of 2023.
"Convenience stores have emerged as popular shopping destinations as the number of foreigners visiting Korea increased sharply recently," an official of GS Retail said. "GS25 will continue to serve as a representative Korean convenience store that will help improve foreigners' travel experiences during their stay here."
He added, "We have embedded QR codes in the package, which foreigners can scan with their mobile phones to use at restaurants and coffee shops like Seoul 88 Beer and Cafe True as well as Shinsegae Duty Free shop and ABC Mart."
