One of the controversies that would come up when it comes to national sporting events like the Super Bowl was how people behaved when the national anthem was played. This was a point President Donald Trump’s son Eric Trump made after boasting about how his father reportedly made the crowd patriotic again.
Speaking to Sean Hannity on Fox News, Eric Trump praised his father for how people behaved during the latest Super Bowl. “I mean, patriotism is back” then explained by saying that people who were present did not kneel when the national anthem played. The whole controversy erupted when 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick protested racism by “taking a knee” during the star-spangled banner. Donald Trump then lambasted Kaepernick, calling him a “son of a b*tch” and demanded his removal.
Over the years since becoming president, Trump has always pointed out that every American should proudly stand during the national anthem. Those who do not will face insults thrown their way by Trump.
Coincidentally, when the First Family spent the weekend at Mar-a-Lago and throwing a watch party for the Super Bowl, when the national anthem came on, the president was seen fidgeting and playing conductor. First Lady Melania Trump and their son Barron Trump, on the other hand, stood with their hands on their hearts. The video of the president’s behavior over the weekend during the national anthem was shared online.
Eric’s latest comments regarding his father come as a stark contrast to what he promised years back during the inauguration. Eric promised he would not get involved in politics because there would be a conflict of interest. Other than promoting his father, Eric praised the NFL for showcasing the military.
Trump is currently up for reelection this year, and among the things he was under fire for during the campaigning period was his Super Bowl advertisement. Critics slammed Trump’s ad for trying to “gaslight” Americans and suggesting that he is not racist. The ad talked about how Trump’s criminal justice reform reunited families in the country, which is ironic considering that his administration has separated and detained children from their families at the border.
