Donald Trump’s “Home Alone 2” scene is now a topic even within political circles lately. The discussion is not about the scene itself but because of the fact that it was cut when the movie was shown in Canadian television.
In the 1992 Christmas classic, Donald Trump appeared in a cameo when Kevin, Macauley Culkin’s character, got separated from his parents. Kevin asked Trump where the hotel lobby was.
In 2014, the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) decided to cut eight minutes from the film to make room for commercials, The Guardian reported. Unfortunately, Donald Trump’s brief interaction with Kevin was included in the segment that was removed.
Since its Christmas once more, CBC aired “Home Alone 2” in December. This time, some of Trump’s supporters noticed that the President’s brief cameo was cutoff, which started the discussion.
“I think they’re actually terrified that people will remember that before he was the new Hitler, he was a beloved mainstream cultural figure,” Fox News panel Mark Steyn said, according to The Wrap. “That’s who Donald Trump was before he was the new Hitler. I think they’re terrified of these little things that will remind people just how deranged his opponents are.”
Even Donald Trump Jr. reacted and posted his thoughts on Twitter. “’Pathetic’: Canada’s CBC under fire when Trump’s cameo in ‘Home Alone 2’ disappears from Christmas broadcast,” the President’s son tweeted.
The President himself also reacted and even mentioned the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. “I guess Justin T doesn't much like my making him pay up on NATO or Trade!” Trump said, according to CNN.
Trump probably made the comment as a joke. However, Trudeau would never have been able to pull off such a stunt even if he wanted. While the CBC is owned by the Canadian government, it has always operated independently.
A CBC spokesman went forward to explain what happened. The only reason why the scene was cutoff is to make way for advertising.
In addition, the edits were made back in 2014. At that time, Trump did not yet become the president so the decision to cut the scene was never politically motivated.
