New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman is also set to release her own book with more revelations about former President Donald Trump. According to Haberman, Trump was believed to have flushed White House documents in the toilet.
Haberman, who has ties with the former president and his family, revealed the former president’s way of disposing of certain documents in her upcoming book “Confidence Man,” according to Axios.
The outlet’s co-founder Mike Allen said that Haberman’s book is the one that the former president “fears most,” and is the most talked-about book among Trump aides. Some advisers were not happy about the former president’s decision to speak with Haberman as part of his conversations with book authors at his Mar-a-Lago resort.
“While in office, the former president blithely flouted the Presidential Records Act, which required him to preserve written communications concerning his official duties,” reported Allen. “Trump routinely tore up documents and after leaving office brought substantial written materials back to Mar-a-Lago. A Trump spokesman didn’t respond to a request for comment about the plumbing matter.”
Aside from reportedly finding documents that the former president is believed to have flushed down a toilet in the White House, the National Archives also found boxes of documents at Mar-a-Lago which should have been turned over to the agency. The National Archives has since referred the incident to the Biden Justice Department, looking into Trump’s improper handling of White House documents.
According to reporter Scott MacFarlane, Utah Republican Senator Mitt Romney, who is also one of the former president’s vocal critics, blasted Trump following the reports that some of the documents Trump took to Mar-a-Lago after leaving Washington contained potentially top-secret information.
“Clearly, if classified documents were taken, that would be of grave concern and it’s appropriate to follow the law,” said Romney, who was among the Republicans who voted to convict Trump in both Senate impeachment trials. “Frankly, President Trump’s misbehavior consists of a long list and you just add that to the total.”
Trump has denied the allegations on the documents, saying that the flushed documents in a White House toilet was fake.
