Dunkin’s fall menu introduces the Dunkalatte, a new twist on traditional lattes featuring coffee milk. Unlike standard lattes, the Dunkalatte delivers a double dose of coffee flavor by combining espresso with rich, creamy coffee-flavored milk for a smooth, milkshake-like experience.
Dunkin’ Introduces the Dunkalatte: A Creamy Twist on the Classic Latte with Coffee Milk
September brings a sense of exciting change, not just because of back-to-school season or the vibrant colors of fall, but for the eagerly awaited Dunkin' fall menu. While classics like the Pumpkin Spice Signature Latte return, new seasonal offerings also take the spotlight. Two new items were recently reviewed, and a clear favorite emerged: the Dunkalatte. However, this product might leave some wondering how it differs from the lattes that have long been staples on Dunkin's permanent menu.
Lattes, in general, are part of a broader category of espresso drinks, primarily distinguished by the ratio of milk to espresso and the way the milk is prepared—whether frothed, steamed, or both. For instance, the difference between a latte and a cappuccino lies in steamed milk and foam proportions. So, what sets the Dunkalatte apart? The answer lies in one key ingredient: coffee milk. Coffee milk is whole milk infused with coffee extract, much like chocolate milk is flavored with chocolate syrup. This creamy, rich, bittersweet drink is also the official state beverage of Rhode Island.
Given coffee milk’s New England roots, it seems fitting that Dunkin', which started in Massachusetts, would introduce this twist on the classic latte. To make it uniquely Dunkin, the chain uses its coffee extract by infusing crushed coffee beans with alcohol or an alcohol substitute to release its flavors. The Dunkalatte, in essence, is Dunkin' coffee-flavored milk within Dunkin' espresso—a double dose of roasty, chocolatey coffee perfectly balanced by creamy milk.
Dunkin’s Dunkalatte Delivers a Smooth, Milkshake-Like Coffee Experience Perfect for Fall
In a report by Tasting Table, Dunkin' describes the Dunkalatte as an "ultra-smooth drink that sips like a latte and tastes like a melty milkshake," in a taste test, it lived up to that description. It delivered a rich, melted coffee ice cream-like flavor, with the espresso’s intensity softened by sweet coffee syrup and smooth milk.
While Dunkin's traditional lattes, made with whole milk or other options, remain beloved, the Dunkalatte’s unique flavor makes it hard to return to plain milk once you've tried coffee milk. Available hot or iced, this fall treat is tasty enough to earn a spot on the menu year-round—or at least a recurring fall favorite.
