“Bates Motel” has been a surprising hit for A&E, and the season 4 finale definitely cranked the thrill and shock factor up to eleven. Even though fans of the movie “Psycho” already knew what to expect, seeing Norman kill his mother Norma still sent chills up the spines of many viewers. In the next season though, fans have something to look forward to as an iconic character from the movie is set to make an appearance.
Of course, since “Bates Motel” is a prequel to the Alfred Hitchcock classic, anyone who has seen it would already know what fate has in store for Norma. For those who haven’t seen it yet, let’s just say she lost a lot of weight.
The movie also introduced one of the most iconic scenes in horror cinema history when Norman stabbed a woman to death while she was in the shower. That woman is Marion Crane and in an interview with TVLine, the show’s executive producer Carlton Cuse confirmed Crane’s appearance.
Cuse also confirmed that Crane will be appearing in many of the episodes in season 5 which producers are saying will be the last season of the show. A clue as to what to expect next is in a segment by TVLine after the season 4 finale when Cuse was speaking about their vision for the final stretch of the TV hit.
“We wanted the final season to allow us to do our version of the Psycho lore,” he said. “We will be colliding with certain events in the narrative of the film, but it would be boring to just recreate Psycho.”
It’s worth noting that it seems Norma didn’t have to die this season, but the producers felt that she was becoming less sympathetic as a character. Not to worry though as in an interview with Yahoo TV, showrunner Kerry Ehrin says that Norma will be around in season 5; although in a very different way.
The Season 5 premiere date of A&E’s “Bates Motel” has not been announced yet.
