“Atlanta,” the Donald Glover-starred series is no longer being aired on home network FX. But ever since the show has been renewed for Season 2 almost immediately before wrapping its first season in November, the question on everyone’s minds is: will we be watching the most beloved TV series of 2016 on Netflix soon?
Matej Jelic on SpoilersGuide said as much as execs at the beloved streaming service would like, it takes a lot to legally stream “Atlanta” on Netflix. Accordingly, “Atlanta” should first get covered under a legal agreement that would allow Netflix and a network before it gets streamed online. However, he’s not discounting the possibility that it can be done.
He wrote, “”Atlanta” is not tied up to any exclusive streaming rights that FX has made in the past with Netflix’s rival, Hulu. As long as the status of the series remains this way, there’s still stand a chance that Netflix may decide to acquire some rights for “Atlanta” to be part of their platform.”
But Australian fans will get to watch “Atlanta” again very soon. News.com.au reports that local broadcaster SBS will show “Atlanta” on Australian screens on February 28 on the Viceland channel with a double episode. Fans can tune in on Tuesday, 930pm and watch Glover, who’s also known in the music industry as Childish Gambino, play Princeton dropout Earnest “Earn” Marks start a career in rap.
Glover, who also serves as an executive producer, will probably start on the second season after wrapping up the awards circuit and some personal projects. “Atlanta” recently nabbed “Best New Series” and “Best Comedy Series” at the Writers’ Guild of America Sunday night. The show also won Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes last month. TV3.ie also added that he is also tapped to voice Simba in Jon Favreau's The Lion King remake and Lando Calrissian in the young Han Solo “Star Wars” spin-off move
