The online support for the production and release of “Alita: Battle Angel 2” is slowly but surely gaining more attention. Fans can only hope that this would be enough to convince 20th Century Fox and Disney that a sequel to the James Cameron-produced movie could be worth funding.

Alita: Battle Angel 2’ production updates: Is a sequel in the pipeline?

It has been months since the first movie was released on the big screen. But fans should not worry because the announcement of movie sequels relatively a take longer time than it is for a TV show. The good thing about anticipating the release of “Alita: Battle Angel 2” is that several factors are making it easy to believe that a sequel is likely getting done.

This could also be the reason why the online petition for “Alita: Battle Angel 2” keeps garnering support over time. When EconoTimes reported on the Change.org campaign almost exactly a month ago, it already had more than 60,000 signatures. And, as of this writing, the number increase to almost 75,000.

Fans will also be delighted to know that director Robert Rodriguez and actress Rosa Salazar, who played the titular role, both said they would love to work on “Alita: Battle Angel 2.” Now, all they have to wait is for the movie producers to announce that they are on board for a sequel, too.

Alita: Battle Angel 2’ plot: First movie’s cliffhanger hints at a sequel

Looking through the comments of people who signed the Change.org petition for “Alita: Battle Angel 2” shows that many of them want a sequel because the first movie’s plot hinted at its huge possibility. Alita is on her way to becoming the Motorball tournament champion, and that is a sure way to get her to Zalem.

Zalem played a huge role in the first movie’s plot, but none of the main protagonists ever reached the city. And with Hugo (Keean Johnson) falling to his death attempting to climb up there, going to Zalem has become Alita’s pilgrimage. It would be a major missed opportunity if fans would not get to see it explored in “Alita: Battle Angel 2.”

The first movie’s cliffhanger also clearly foreshadowed that the story is not over yet – Alita still needs to make Nova (Edward Norton) pay. Norton’s cameo at the end of the film is most likely another clue that “Alita: Battle Angel 2” will probably be released.
