Alita (Rosa Salazar) will have so many things to explore in “Alita: Battle Angel 2” about her past and with the possibility of her finally reaching Zalem. It would be a nice touch to see more familiar faces offer her moral support and bigger challenges to further develop her character arc.
Nova: The main villain
The return of Nova (Edward Norton) is one thing fans can count on once “Alita: Battle Angel 2” is confirmed. The end of the first film made was building up for a sequel where Nova will play a bigger role, one that is no longer performed by a proxy like Vector (Mahershala Ali).
It was established that Nova is the ultimate antagonist to Alita’s past, present, and a peaceful future. So it is safe to assume Nova will most likely get more than just a cameo appearance in “Alita: Battle Angel 2.”
In the “Gunnm” manga series where the cyberpunk film was based, Nova and Alita’s relationship developed into more than just mortal rivals. It is going to be interesting how much of that would be carried over to the James Cameron-produced movie adaptation.
Dr. Dyson Ido: Alita’s possible guide to Zalem
Dr. Dyson Ido (Christoph Waltz) is more than just a cybernetics expert. He also became a father figure to Alita as well as one of her few reliable allies, and he might just get another role in the cyborg warrior’s journey in “Alita: Battle Angel 2.”
It was revealed in the first movie that Ido grew up and lived in Zalem until he was exiled. With Alita possibly winning the Motorball Tournament in “Alita: Battle Angel 2,” she might just gain enough money to sneak Ido back into the city where he could offer her Zalem knowledge and help Alita navigate through the city.
Hugo: Surprise return?
Now, this might sound a bit of a stretch since movie fans saw Hugo (Keean Johnson) falling supposedly to his death in the first movie. But there is an unwritten rule in movies and TV shows that unless viewers see a corpse, a character said to have died can always return. This might be the case for Hugo in “Alita: Battle Angel 2.”
Hugo is such an important part of Alita’s character development in the first movie. Most of her actions were motivated by her love for Hugo, even the inspiration to win the Motorball was implied to be her way of honoring his wishes. Of course, Alita’s intentions to exact revenge on Nova is also fueled by what happened to Hugo.
