Associate Professor, Department of Tourism and Hospitality, Bournemouth University
I was a lecturer in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and in Modern Languages for many years. Subsequently I specialised in teaching EAP to international Masters students at Bournemouth University. Since 2006, I have been the Framework Leader for the School of Tourism Masters framework. I offer academic support to international students and I lecture in research methods, primarily in qualitative research. I completed a PHD on the adjustment experience of international students in 2008. My research interests include role and identity conflict and host-visitor contact. I am also interested in the experiences of migrant workers in the UK. I have disseminated my research findings through conferences, books and journals. I am currently involved in research projects on: the hopes and fears of Turkish exchange students about travel to the West, the incidence of racism experienced by international students and international student perceptions of the World Cup.
